Words. Jason Jordan

In the closing seconds of the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game at Venice Beach, Calif., last weekend, Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) point guard Quinn Cook came down awkwardly on his right knee.

The freak accident will cost Cook, a senior who is ranked No. 25 in the new HSH national Top 50, three to four months.

Austin Rivers headlines High School Hoop Top 50

Words. High School Hoop

The most distinct difference in the HSH/2K Sports national Top 50 player ranking and everyone else’s is that we disregard class. To us, a baller is a baller; doesn’t matter how old you are or when you’re slated to graduate.

Our rankings also aren’t based on what type of prospect you’ll be in the future, what college you pick or don’t pick, or what city you’re from. For this updated version of the Top 50 — the first we’ve done since the Class of 2010 seniors graduated — all that matters is what you did on this summer’s AAU circuit and what you did last season. We had eyes and ears at pretty much every major event, and saw every player on this list multiple times. MORE >

HSH 1-on-1: Quinn Cook is high on UNC, Duke, UCLA

Words. Jason Jordan

When listing the top point guards in the 2011 class, it’s hard not to mention Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) star Quinn Cook near the top.

All Cook has done is remain consistent throughout the summer while running DC Assault, win gold with USA Basketball’s under-17 team, and cap off the AAU season with an MVP performance at adidas Nations.

“It’s been fun,” said Cook. “There were things that I felt I could’ve done better, but all in all I was OK with how I did this summer.” MORE >

Words. Jason Jordan

Westchester Academy (High Point, N.C.) forward Quincy Miller has one of the biggest Twitter (@QMillerTime) followings of any high school player in the country at slightly under 6,000 followers. And his big fan base pales in comparison to his big personality.

“I just loooove to have fun,” said Miller, a rising 6-9 senior. “Of course I work hard and all of that, but I’m all about a good time too!”

He’s had a ball this summer, dominating the AAU scene and winning a gold medal with Team USA’s U-18 squad. MORE >

Rakeem Christmas picks Syracuse

Words. Austin Burton

In their storied history, Syracuse basketball hasn’t exactly been known for elite big men. That could change in the next few years.

With 2010 All-American center Fab Melo currently preparing for his freshman season at Syracuse, the Orange just landed a commitment from Class of 2011 star center Rakeem Christmas, considered one of the best big man in the country.

“I had a lot of great options, but I fell in love with Syracuse,” Christmas told Fox Sports. “I know a lot of the guys on the team and that made a difference in my decision. I also felt that I could fit in well with their system.” MORE >
