Despite the fact that Syracuse is losing Jonny Flynn to the NBA Draft, they have found his successor in Brandon Triche. The 6-3 guard from Jamesville-DeWitt High School (Dewitt, N.Y.), who was named the New York State Class A Player of the Year after leading his squad to the New York Class A State Championship, could be one the most slept on prospects in the country.

Brandon Triche
Hometown: Dewitt, N.Y.
High School: Jamesville-DeWitt High School
Position: PG/SG
Height: 6-3
Weight: 210 lbs.

HSH: Where did you grow up playing basketball?
Brandon Triche: Just playing with my older brothers right in the backyard. My dad always had a hoop for us.

HSH: Going to Syracuse in the Fall, there is potentially a wide open backcourt if Jonny Flynn and Eric Devendorf decide to come out. How are you looking to come right in and step up?
BT: I just want to work hard and prove myself. I started working out for college a couple weeks ago and I’ve got five months to really workout, work on my total game and get ready for college. Just coming out and showing the guys that are already on the team that they can have confidence in me will be a big step.

HSH: How far do you think ‘Cuse can go with you in the mix?
BT: I wanna say we gonna win a championship, but the Big East is the best conference in America, so it’s kinda hard to say.

HSH: What was it like playing in the Garden for the Jordan Classic?
BT: Playing at Madison Square Garden, the lights is bright, it’s time to perform when you’re here. You even see it in the NBA – LeBron, Kobe and Dwyane Wade – when they’re here, they always want to put on a show. That’s what I wanted to do.

HSH: For someone that has never seen you play, how would you describe your game?
BT: Lot of upper body strength. Never gonna quit. You know, just gonna keep attacking. They’re gonna see a great basketball mind when they see me play.

HSH: Who would you compare your game to?
BT: Out here it looked like I was a two guard, but I’m really a point guard. When I’m playing the point, I play like Deron Williams.

HSH: What are you listening to on your iPod these days?
BT: A lot of Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, and I listen to a lot of R&B.

HSH: What are your favorite sneakers of all-time?
BT: I think the LeBron Is or IIs, you know, the mid-top ones.

HSH: How deep is your personal collection?
BT: I got like probably 35-40 pairs of shoes.
