In recent weeks, the craze over Tyreke Evans commitment to Memphis, Texas or Villanova has eclipsed all other stories about “Too Easy.” But last night’s McDonald’s All-American contest brought his actual game back to the forefront. Evans was named the MVP after leading the underdog East squad to a 107-102 win with 21 points and 10 boards.

His stutter-step was probably his most effective move off the bounce, as dudes jumped out of their shoes for it. He looked like a bouncier version of Paul Pierce, using his shoulders to finish power moves in the paint. The only thing missing was the mean mug that Pierce has displayed ever since he wore Jelani McCoy’s jersey during the 1995 McDonald’s All-American game.

‘Reke had one great highlight, which epitomized his game, when he crossed up Jrue Holiday and finished strong and-1 right off of the block.

And now, the focus can shift back to Evans’ LOI. The race is getting so heated that Jay Wright is making veiled comments about his interest in Evans at NCAA Tournament press conferences. When asked about ‘Nova’s Corey Fisher as a tough New York guard, Wright went out of his way to say that guys from New York, D.C., and Philly have a certain X-factor that helps elevate their game beyond other players. Wonder which Philly guy he was talking about?
