Doron Lamb and Tristan Thompson Dominate at Nike Tournament of Champions

The Nike Tournament of Champions is an end of summer basketball tourney that puts the champions from the Nike sponsored summer basketball tournaments on the New York City circuit – Pro City, Dyckman, Tri-State Classic and West 4th – against each other to crown one champion of the summer.
This year the good people at Nike added a high school game with some of the top players taking the court before the street ball championship game. Tristan Thompson St Benedict’s HS (NJ), Shaquille Thomas Paterson Catholic HS (NJ), Doron Lamb Oak Hill Academy (VA), Lamont “Momo” Jones, Devon Collier St. Anthony’s HS (NJ), Ashton Pankey St. Anthony’s HS (NJ) and several others participated in the game.
Tristan Thompson showed why he is considered the top played in his class. The lefty is 6-9 but agile and has a good enough handle to get to the rack at will and his hops are legit so don’t jump. The Texas recruit finished with a game-high 30 points, even though his white squad fell 105-87.

Doron Lamb was named the MVP of the game. The 6-4 combo guard scored 26 points for the wining squad. He got to the rack at will, and hit several deep jumpers. Also impressive was Shaquille Thomas. Thomas is the nephew of Los Angeles Clippers forward Tim Thomas, at 6-7 180 pounds he is only a junior. Thomas had a few highlight dunks and showed the ability to handle the ball and create his own shot.
Overall the event was a success and was top shelf, as is expected when Nike is involved. The event had great music, tasty food and high level basketball. We are looking forward to the Tournament of Champions every year forth.

Despite the ragged nature of a Rucker Park event, Lamb looked like he could hang with the mostly older players at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 and he also dominated at the Nike Tournament of Champions.
