BREAKING NEWS: John Wall Is Now A Wildcat

John Wall has been in the dead center of the spotlight for months now, increasing his celebrity with every week that passed without making a commitment. With one day before the National Letter of Intent deadline, Wall ended the long recruiting saga and signed with the Kentucky Wildcats. Now his time in the sun will only continue, as he is the centerpiece of what many believe to be the greatest recruiting haul of all time.

Wall will accompany the best big man in the Class of ‘09, 6-10 PF/C DeMarcus Cousins, another elite five-star PG Eric Bledsoe, Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball SF Jon Hood, and a bona fide ox on the block 6-9 C Daniel Orton. Though Coach Calipari’s “recruiting class” won’t technically include PF Patrick Patterson or SF Darius Miller, he deserves some commendation for getting both of those guys to come back in the face of the NBA draft and transferring respectively.

This is why John Calipari is worth eight years, $35 million. Even though Wall enjoyed his visit to Miami recently and made many people believe that it was a real possibility that he could end up in South Beach, Calipari locked him in to play for UK.

We’ll really have to wait until about a year from now to truly evaluate this class, but right now it looks as though it could seriously rival the greatest recruiting classes ever. How does the Kentucky ‘09 group stack up against these other hauls?

* Ohio State 2006 - Greg Oden, Daequan Cook, Mike Conley, and David Lighty
* North Carolina 2002 - Rashad McCants, Sean May, and Ray Felton
* Michigan 1991 - Chris Webber (No. 1), Juwan Howard (No. 3), Jalen Rose (No. 6), Jimmy King (No. 9), Ray Jackson (No. 84)
