Michael Gilchrist’s Top 2: Kentucky and Villanova
Words. dimemag

Today’s Philadelphia Inquirer has a story about St. Patrick’s (N.J.) super-recruit Michael Gilchrist and his top college choices.
The list of suitors for Gilchrist is a long one - Kentucky, Villanova, Rutgers, Louisiana State, North Carolina, Duke, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Indiana, West Virginia, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Southern Cal, and Connecticut are apparently all in the mix.
But even though Michael says he’s “wide open,” Kentucky and ‘Nova look like they are in the driver’s seat. From the article:
Many believe the Somerdale resident’s college of choice is Kentucky. After all, Gilchrist, who commutes almost every day from Somerdale in Camden County to St. Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth, N.J., revealed he wanted to play for John Calipari at Memphis two years ago.
In April, Calipari became the head coach at Kentucky. And since Gilchrist’s uncle, William Wesley, and Calipari are close friends, he’s a lock to sign with Kentucky, right?
“It’s wide open,” the 6-foot-7 swingman said. “I want to be recruited heavily.”
The 15-year-old even elevated his arms, motioning that Kentucky and Villanova are neck and neck.
“Michael loves Villanova,” said Cindy Richardson, Gilchrist’s mother. “It’s Kentucky, Villanova. Villanova, Kentucky.”
Seriously?
“Yes,” she said.
Gotta think it will be tough for ‘Nova or anyone of those other schools to steal Gilchrist from Coach Cal, right?

Michael and his fam are true to their word. Nova has a real shot with 3 former Pat’s players (Mike Nardi, Corey Fisher, and Marcus Austin). It’s offers an excellent school that’s very close to home.
