Syracuse Lands 7-Foot Brazilian Fab Melo
Words. Aron Phillips

The last time a Melo suited up for Syracuse, the Orange won the National Championship. And I’m sure Jim Boeheim hopes the same will happen when Fabricio de Melo a.k.a. Fab Melo suits up in 2010. Earning perhaps the biggest recruiting coup of the summer, the 7-foot, 267-pound center has committed to the Orange.
Choosing SU over Louisville, Miami and Florida, while Connecticut, Texas and Kansas also made offers, Melo is arguably the second best center in the country and a top five overall prospect in the Class of 2010. After being named to the First Team at the NBA Players Association Top 100 camp earlier this summer, he’ll be joining an outstanding 2010 recruiting class that includes 6-3 scoring guard Dion Waiters, 6-7 combo forward C.J. Fair and 6-11 center Baye Moussa Keita.
Although Melo had to sit out this past high school season at Sagemont High School in Weston, Florida due to transfer rules, he was tearing it up on the circuit all summer playing AAU ball for the Florida Rams.
