Tobias Harris Picks Tennessee

Tobias Harris

It was just last week that we had Tobias Harris on our list of the Top Five Unsigned Seniors. The No. 14 prospect in the HSH Top 50, Harris said that he planned to decide on Nov. 19 where he’d go to school, and he lived up to that promise. Choosing between Georgia Tech, Louisville, Kentucky, Maryland, Syracuse, West Virginia and Tennessee, Harris decided to head down south to play for the Vols.

“I’m going to be playing my college basketball at the University of Tennessee,” said Harris, who announced his decision live on ESPNU Thursday night.

“I really had a great relationship with Coach [Bruce] Pearl and Coach [Tony] Jones,” Harris said. “It’s just a family atmosphere down there. I got along with the players real well and it’s just a great opportunity and fit for me.”

Recruiting junkies went nuts when news of Harris’ impromptu detour to Tennessee broke Wednesday night. He’d stopped in Knoxville on his way back from his Georgia Tech visit. While there, he watched the Vols stomp UNC Asheville, 124-49.

Harris, who stands 6-8, is listed as a power forward but is more of a floating power forward. He can step out and knock down the perimeter jump shot or break down the defense off the dribble and finish in the lane with authority. His versatility will allow him to play multiple positions at Tennessee. Harris joins guards Jordan McRae (Liberty County, Ga.) and Trae Golden (McEachern, Ga.) to form the Vols 2010 recruiting class.
