Syracuse still leads for Wroten

Tony Wroten Jr.

Garfield High School (Seattle) guard Tony Wroten Jr. said his interest from colleges hasn’t fallen off as a result of the knee injury that could cost him his entire junior season.

Wroten tore his ACL in September, in his first game with Garfield’s football team. (He also caught a touchdown and intercepted two passes in that game.) He’s been sidelined ever since, and the reigning Class 4A state runner-up Bulldogs has struggled to stay in Washington’s Top-10 ranking without him.

It makes sense, however, that colleges haven’t cooled off on him. Wroten is one of the top scoring guards in the country and was previously ranked No. 8 in HSH’s national top 50. The only reason he won’t make the list when the new rankings are released is because of his hiatus.

“I still hear from the coaches all the time,” said Wroten. “It means a lot that they didn’t let this stop them from recruiting me.”

He list includes Syracuse, Connecticut, Villanova, Washington and Tennessee. When asked if he had a leader, Wroten answered, “Yeah, Syracuse.”

He went on to say that he was a “long way” from making a commitment. For now, he’s focused on making a comeback.

“I’ll be back by mid February,” he said. “I’m ready!”
