He’s been verbally committed to Florida for over a year, but this fall, Rivers decided to open things up and let Duke recruit him as well, making his one of the most captivating recruiting stories in the country.

Kyrie Irving picks Duke

In the end, the lure to have the ball in his hands from Day One at one of college basketball’s most storied programs was too much to turn down, as St. Patrick High (N.J.) point guard Kyrie Irving picked Duke today over Kentucky and Texas A&M live on ESPNU.

“I’ll be a Blue Devil next year,” Irving told ESPNU. “It was just my relationship with him (Coach Mike Krzyzewski) and the whole coaching staff. I have a great relationship with everybody. When I went on my official visit it felt like home. It’s the place for me.” MORE >

I arrived at the Carolina Inn at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 3. Outside was Coach (Roy) Williams waiting for me and my family to take us to our rooms. The rooms were really nice.

Well, the first night I had to stay with my family because I think that’s just the policy, but the next night I got my own room. I got a queen bed to myself. I enjoyed that. MORE >

Kyrie Irving: “I’m leaning toward Duke”

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that St. Patrick’s High (N.J.) point guard (and Bounce Magazine cover guy) Kyrie Irving told us last night that he was “leaning toward Duke.”

Remember we reported a while ago that Irving, who is rated the No. 6 prospect in the High School Hoop Top-50, would commit to Duke either during his official visit to Durham, which happened this past weekend, or shortly thereafter. It appears he’s going with the latter.

We caught up with Irving last night and asked him the tough, straightforward questions about his big visit, which included a matchup against former Duke great Jason Williams. MORE >

Exclusive: Austin Rivers stays committed to Florida, but is “loving” Duke

After taking an unofficial visit to Duke this past weekend, Winter Park High (Fla.) star Austin Rivers, who had been committed to Florida for the past year, officially re-opened his recruitment … Sort of.

Rivers contacted us today and told us, ”I’m gonna stay committed to Florida, but I’m gonna let Duke officially start to recruit me. Because I like Duke a lot. ”
