Is John Wall the Next Derrick Rose?

Dimemag presents: High School Hoop

On the same floor that Brandon Jennings proved to have a “peerless skill set” one year ago, John Wall solidified his status as High School Hoop’s top point guard this weekend at the Pangos All-American camp at USC’s Galen Pavilion (Los Angeles, Calif.). Though Wall admittedly didn’t attack defenses in his sixth gear as he’s capable of doing, he cranked it up on Sunday’s all-star game to take home MVP honors. MORE >

The 7-2 240 lbs. Sudanese center has been down in Bradenton, Florida at the training mecca, IMG Academies getting ready to finally prove himself worthy of NBA consideration. But wait, Riek just finished a year at The Winchendon School (Winchendon, Mass.) so how can he get drafted? After some investigation, it turned out that Riek actually graduated from high school in the Sudan, so his years in the U.S. count as post-grad. MORE >

Just How Good is Ed Davis?

Words. HShoop

Reaaallll good.

T.C. Williams coach Ivan Thomas is 44-0 in the Virginia AAA Patriot District. He traveled to play Davis’ Benedictine team, and suffered a rare defeat, 69-61. After the game, Thomas horsed-around with Davis, putting the 6-9 senior into a headlock. Davis deserved it; he went off for a triple-double with 30 points, 22 boards, 10 blocks and 4 assists.

Before going into his final game against Blue Ridge, Davis scored his 2,102 point. He’s likely to be named a McDonald’s All-American when the selection show starts at 6:30 PM ET today on ESPNU. During that game against Blue Ridge, Davis ended his career fittingly. He grabbed a rebound off a missed 3-pointer from his teammate Andrey Semenov before being fouled. He then hit the game-clinching free throws to seal a 57-53 win. MORE >

SNY Invitational - Trinity Fields

Dimemag presents: High School Hoop

Before Lance Stephenson took center stage and took home tournament-MVP honors, all eyes were on Trinity Fields, the Iona-commit who smoothly scored 21 points as Cardozo downed Frederick Douglass Academy 59-45. Fields took over during the third quarter, scoring 12 of his 21 as the Judges cruised to a 19-7 advantage during that period. Fields fed off of the increasingly intense atmosphere - Fat Joe tracks pumping during timeouts as he sat courtside - and drained two key three’s over a slow-shifting defense. MORE >

Nike’s Super 6 Invitational at Madison Square Garden on Sunday showcased some of the best high school teams in the country and some of the top players in the tri-state area. The biggest name on the marquee was St. Benedict’s H.S. (NJ) big man Samardo Samuels, a Louisville recruit and Top-5 player in the Class of ‘08, who didn’t start the day like he wanted, but ended up copping MVP of the invitational’s main event. Also on the Super 6 roster were Top-100 seniors Kemba Walker (UConn), Kevin Jones (West Virginia) and Quintrell Thomas (Kansas), as well as some of the best juniors in the country and a few standout sophomores. Here are the stars of the Super 6:

Kevin Jones, PF, Sr., Mount Vernon (NY). 25 points, 19 rebounds, 5 steals. Although KJ was putting up numbers throughout the game against Pateron Catholic (NJ) — he had a double-double before halftime — he wasn’t exactly showing why he was such a coveted Class of ‘08 recruit. Jones was having trouble with Paterson’s bigs for most of the game, and his usually reliable mid-range jumper was flat. But when Mount Vernon went to a full-court press in the fourth quarter and began to pull back into a game in which they were down double-digits, Jones displayed all of the skills that made him such a big catch for Bob Huggins at West Virginia. Harassing the inbounds passer at the top of Mount Vernon’s press, Jones started collecting steals and finishing with dunks and layups off of Paterson’s turnovers, and his jumper finally started falling. By the end of the Knights’ come-from-behind win, Jones had put up a monster stat line and left little doubt that he can succeed in the Big East.

Jordan Theodore, PG, Sr., Paterson Catholic (NJ). 12 points, 5 assists, 5 steals. The Seton Hall commit has blinding speed quickness that will make him a favorite of Bobby Gonzalez in the near future, but his jumper wasn’t falling on Sunday. He was 0-for-6 from beyond the arc and finished the game 4-for-12 from the field. MORE >
