Harrow responds to McDonald’s All-American snub

Words. Jason Jordan

Ryan Harrow is beginning to sense a pattern.

Last week, after the selections for the 2010 McDonald’s All-American Game were announced live on ESPNU, Harrow — a senior point guard at Walton H.S. in Marietta, Ga. — once again found himself on the outside looking in as he was denied a career-defining opportunity. General consensus among several media and HSH readers was that Harrow was the biggest McD’s snub out of anybody.

“I found out that I didn’t make it about a week before it was announced,” said Harrow, ranked No. 26 in the HSH national Top 50. MORE >

Updates on Josh Selby and Ray McCallum

Josh Selby’s mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, confirmed to us recently that her son would indeed be kicking off 2010 with two key visits. Giving thanks … The basketball way

Words. Jason Jordan

In between the mouth-watering turkey and perfectly glazed ham, the tasty pies and rich cakes, it’s a customary practice on Thanksgiving to go around the table and voice the many reasons to be thankful.

But from family to health and everything in between, the grateful glorifications have become just a bit cliché. I mean, c’mon, how much can you REALLY appreciate a pet Cocker Spaniel?

That’s why we caught up with five of the top players in the country and had them chime in on which basketball skill they’re most thankful for: MORE >

If Duke is close to shaking up the high school recruiting world, then UCLA is right there with them. This weekend, the Bruins are hosting three of the top players in the Class of 2010 with a loaded pool of talent hitting their campus: Josh Smith (Kentwood High School in Washington), Ray McCallum (Detroit Country Day in Michigan) and Trey Zeigler (Mt. Pleasant High School in Michigan). MORE >

Ray McCallum Jr.: High School Hoop’s Fortunate Son

Words. Jason Jordan

Story from Dime Magazine #50

Every top college basketball program wants Ray McCallum Jr. to be their point guard of the future. Now Ray has to decide what comes first - hoop dreams or family.

Ray McCallum Jr. knows that, coming from a likely lock for the 2010 McDonald’s All-American game, this will come across as disingenuous and rehearsed and, for lack of a better phrase, a bunch of hogwash.

He can sense the immediate eye roll reaction when he says that he’s, “REALLY looking at staying home and playing for Detroit Mercy.” Really?

So no Kansas, Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Oklahoma, UCLA or Arizona? MORE >
