The 2009 Class is one of the more well rounded classes we have seen in a while. Especially when it comes to point guards. Names like John Wall and Dexter Strickland are staples when talking about the best floor general. You might not be familiar with high school studs like Peyton Siva or Maalik Wayns, but they’ll be household names real soon. Here is HighSchoolHoop’s top 10 PGs in the class of 2009.
1. John Wall: Raleigh (NC) Word Of God Christian Academy - Undecided
Wall has been the consensus number one point guard for a while. Big point guard who can create shots for himself at will.
2. Dexter Strickland: Elizabeth (NJ) St. Patrick - committed to UNC
The knock on Dex was that lacked aggression. From the looks of it he’s solved that problem.
3. Peyton Siva: Seattle (WA) Franklin - committed to Louisville
The Seattle floor general has no problem getting to the rack. It seems almost effortless.
4. Abdul Gaddy: Tacoma (WA) Bellarmine Prep - Undecided
The ‘07-08 Washington Gatorade Player of the Year is a big guard at 6-3, 175 lbs. and has a complete game. He tallied 23 points, 6 boards and 5 assists per game his junior season and could up the ante next year alongside SG Avery Bradley who has been hot all spring.
5. Maalik Wayns: Philadelphia (PA) Roman Catholic - committed to Villanova
The super-aggressive, super-powerful Wayns is unlike so many point guards his age. Not only does he have the toughness and desire to get past his man on virtually every play on offense, he also relishes the opportunity to play D. Check out this one-on-one sit down Q&A with Wayns.
6. Lorenzo Brown: Alpharetta (GA) Centennial - Undecided
Perhaps the smoothest guard in the entire class, Brown has a knack for making everything look easy.
7. Elijah Johnson: Las Vegas (NV) Cheyenne - Undecided
Johnson is far from a finished product at this stage, but he’s got tons of upside. And opposing teams need to focus on getting back in transition in a hurry against Johnson - he’s outstanding on the break largely because he finishes so well with both hands.
8. Mfon Udofia: Stone Mountain (GA) Miller Grove - Undecided
This lefty can score in bunches. The biggest knock on him is that after he goes on crazy hot streaks, he’ll take plays off. Once he addresses that, Udofia could be a big-time player for Kentucky, Georgia Tech, USC, Clemson or any of the school coming after him.
9. Darius Morris: Los Angeles (CA) Windward - Undecided
Morris won’t end up running the show at a top NCAA program, but as he continues to grow he’s the kind of player who could put a Michigan, Washington, or Wyoming into the national spotlight.
10. Darius Smith: Chicago (IL) Marshall - Undecided
Smith is extraordinarily versatile, but not yet outstanding in one capacity. As he continues to work on his outside shooting, Smith will climb up the board.

[...] proved to have a “peerless skill set” one year ago, John Wall solidified his status as High School Hoop’s top point guard this weekend at the Pangos All-American camp at USC’s Galen Pavilion (Los Angeles, Calif.). [...]
Darius Morris is considering Wyoming? You sure it’s not Darius Smith? I know Wyoming has a Chicago connection with Brandon Ewing and one other dude they had from the Chi.
According to rivals Darius Morris has a new list of Michigan Standford Kentucky Arizona USC Marquette and Texas with other schools coming on strong as well. Seems to me he will be running the show at a top NCAA program and probably climbing up the rankings in the future.
