Class of 2010 star Jereme Richmond, a 6-6 small forward from Waukegan H.S. (Ill.) hasn’t had to worry about impressing the scouts for a long time. Although he’s just going into his junior year, Richmond gave his verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini a couple of years ago. At the Nike Global Challenge this weekend in suburban Portland, Ore., Richmond is one of the 30 elite U.S. players selected to play against teams from Serbia, Senegal, Puerto Rico, Lithuania and Canada.

High School Hoop: How has this Global Challenge been so far?
Jereme Richmond: It’s fun. Like I always say, anytime you play against the best in the country, and now the world, you always have a sense of pride about yourself. For me, playing against the best in the world is an honor.

HSH: Do you think being on the U.S. team you have a target on your back?
JR: Definitely. You know what I’m saying? I always look at it like Team USA is the team to beat everywhere we go, in whatever sport. So all these guys out here, they’re coming for our head, playing real physical. They get after it against us. Any time they can beat Team USA, that’s a big thing.

HSH: What parts or your game have you been trying to improve this summer?
JR: Just not being so hesitant. A couple of times I’d get on the wing and be hesitant to shoot the ball. I want to come out here and get my confidence back up, that way I’ll just catch and shoot and my teammates will feel confident in me. So just not being hesitant, being more aggressive to the basket.

HSH: What NBA players do you often hear your game compared to?
JR: I’ve never heard any comparisons. Well, maybe Donte Greene from Syracuse.

HSH: You committed to Illinois a while ago. What was behind that decision?
JR: I’m comfortable there, me being from Chicago. They showed interest in my early, the coaching staff if really comfortable with me and the players are real cool. Their style of play is up-and-down, and that fits my game. I like to get out and run and share the basketball. Hopefully I can go to that program and play right away.

HSH: What are your thoughts on the Brandon Jennings situation with him going to Europe instead of college?
JR: I’m not really sure why he did it, but I think it’s a great thing. He’s a great talent, and hopefully he’ll go overseas and show off his talent so he can come back to America and play in the NBA.

HSH: What have your learned at the Global Challenge so far?
JR: Just to be humble. Everybody out here can play. I want to come out here and have a good time with the fellas, be humble and work hard.

Two over looked players– Ayrryous Ford 6′5 and Zaiver Shields 6′6 for Auburn High School in Rockford Illinois. —— Ayrryous Ford (6′5′ Sr. - Auburn High School –Rockford, Illinois - 815/966/3300) is clearly under the radar!!! He will be playing against David Brown (Hononegah- January 24, 2009) and Jereme Richmond (Waukegan -1/17/09).

It is Ayrryous ability to defend any star play on the court — he can easily become a 20+ point player (a game) if the ball is passed to him. Ayrryous was the star in the big regional game against Guilford in 2006-2007, and clearly the star against Boylan in the regional game in 2007-2008 with defense and when he got the ball. He is the #1 big man in Rockford Illinois ” NIC 10” without a doubt!!!!!

Zaiver Shields and Ayrryous Ford have played on inter-city league teams and AAU teams (with great success), but I feel that they have not been fully coached and they have not utilized their true athletic abilities yet.

Don’t Sleep on *Taivious Ford* - 6′6″ - 213 pounds - very good defensive player - can handle the ball - can shoot - 3.6 gpa - want to find cure for pancreatitis and to be the owner of his own business - sophmore - AAU player - plays with Fred Van Vleet (9), Marcus Foote(9), Anthony Strictland(10), and Rashaud Ferguson 6′5″(10) - Team record 22-0 and still playing - a *NIC 10* record - Auburn High School in Rockford Illinois.
